Today we had an author, Kevin O'Malley, visit the boys at Calvert. He came with a host of different stories from his childhood and shared how he became a professional children's book author and illustrator. The 7th through 10th Age boys giggled at his jokes, asked insightful questions about his career, and enjoy a morning with the writer!

Graphic Organizers
We have been working on summarizing our text using graphic organizers. The class discussed the similarities between Venn Diagrams used in math with the graphic organizer we are using to find similarities and contrasts from the Henry and Mudge story we just read. The class is finding how the mother and the father in the story are alike and different and writing their answers in their graphic organizers. We will share out in the next couple days.

Chinese New year!
Tuesday we had the privilege of hosting Chinese acrobats who preformed for the lower school. This was the second time we have been able to see the amazing talent of such acrobats. Please enjoy the video of one of the performances.

Oh that "Bossy R"
This week in reading we have been discussing the "Bossy R" and how he rules the word when following a vowel. The class made pirates hats ( because a pirate says ARRRRRR) and we created lists of different words that the bossy R controls in.

Let the Singing Begin!
It started with a warm up song....
Then the 7th Age sang a tune....
The teachers even got a little festive...
Tenth Age boys played our favorite "peanuts" song...
And last but certainly best for last, Dr. Trusty lead us out with a holiday poem!
Happy Holidays to all!
Happy Holidays and Thank you Troops
This week we had the chance to get together with our 10th Age buddies to write to troops stationed over seas. We discussed how important the military is to us and how we can show respect and appreciation to them. We paired up with our buddies and went to work creating cards.
